Cricket Enthusiasts Eagerly Await India Duo’s Debut in Women’s Caribbean Premier League

India batter Jemimah Rodrigues and fast bowler Shikha Pandey are set to make their first appearance in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) as they join the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) squad for the upcoming 2024 season. The pair of India internationals will be joined by Australian stars Meg Lanning and Jess Jonassen, adding to the star-studded lineup of the defending champions.

Rodrigues, who has represented India extensively in the Caribbean, expressed her excitement about the opportunity to don the Knight Riders colors. “This is the first time I’ll be coming to the WCPL. I’ve played for India in the Caribbean quite a bit, but I’m really excited that I’ll be representing the Knight Riders in WCPL,” she said. Rodrigues believes the tournament will serve as excellent preparation for the upcoming Women’s World T20 in October, with some of the world’s best players participating.

    Veteran Pacer Joins the Squad

Veteran pacer Shikha Pandey will also be making her WCPL debut, adding depth and experience to the TKR bowling attack. The team has retained a core group of local Caribbean players, including captain Deandra Dottin, who led the side to the inaugural title in 2022.

Venky Mysore, CEO of the Knight Riders Group, expressed his delight at securing the services of the two Indian stars, along with Lanning and Jonassen. “Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey will add volumes to the quality of the tournament, and we are very thankful to the BCCI for facilitating their first-ever appearance in the WCPL,” Mysore said.

The 2024 WCPL will be held from August 21 to 29 in Trinidad, with all seven matches taking place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Trinbago Knight Riders, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and defending champions Barbados Royals will compete in the tournament.

Cricket enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Jemimah Rodrigues, Shikha Pandey, and the other international stars as they gear up for an exciting edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League.
