Mavuta and Madhevere Rejoin Zimbabwe Squad for India T20Is

Zimbabwe have named their squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India in Harare, with batter Antum Naqvi earning his maiden international call-up. However, his inclusion remains subject to confirmation of his citizenship status.

The selectors have made several changes to the squad, with seasoned campaigners Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, and Ryan Burl, along with Joylord Gumbie and Ainsley Ndlovu, all missing out. This comes after Zimbabwe’s recent 4-1 T20I series defeat against Bangladesh.

Naqvi, a 25-year-old top-order batter, has been making waves in domestic cricket, becoming the first player to score a triple century for any Zimbabwean team when he hit an unbeaten 300 for Mid West Rhinos in the Logan Cup earlier this year. He also boasts an impressive T20 strike rate of 146.80 from seven matches and has put his aviation career on hold to focus on cricket.

Returning to the side after serving their suspensions for drug-related offenses are Brandon Mavuta and Wessly Madhevere. Captain Sikandar Raza, with 86 T20I appearances, is the most experienced player in the squad, followed by allrounder Luke Jongwe with 63 T20I caps.

The 16-man Zimbabwe squad for the India T20I series is as follows:

Sikandar Raza (captain), Faraz Akram, Brian Bennett, Johnathan Campbell, Tendai Chatara, Luke Jongwe, Innocent Kaia, Clive Madande, Wessly Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Brandon Mavuta, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Antum Naqvi, Richard Ngarava, Milton Shumba.
