Ruthless England Decimate New Zealand in 100-Ball Cricket Clash at Chester-le-Street
In a dominant display at the Chester le Street Cricket Ground, England’s women’s cricket team trounced New Zealand by nine wickets in their opening One-Day International (ODI) on Wednesday. The hosts bowled out the Kiwis for a meager 156 within 34 overs before chasing down the target with 172 balls to spare – their biggest-ever win against New Zealand in terms of balls remaining.
The knockout blow came immediately after the 10-over powerplay, as New Zealand collapsed from 56 for 1 to 75 for 5, never recovering from the mid-innings slump. England’s decision to field three frontline spinners on a pitch left purposely uncovered amid the mini-heatwave proved a masterstroke, with seven of the ten Kiwi wickets falling to spin.
Maia Bouchier and Tammy Beaumont then made light work of the run chase, reaching their century partnership in style with a six apiece and dual half-centuries in the 14th over. Beaumont’s unbeaten knock ensured she was present as the winning runs were scored by Heather Knight, much to the delight of the Chester le Street crowd.
“We want to enjoy our cricket and show off our skills, but we also want to dominate at the same time. It was incredibly ruthless today and a bit of a statement at the start of a series,” said Beaumont, who was full of praise for England’s spin bowlers.
The club cricket enthusiasts at the Chester le Street Cricket Club will be eagerly anticipating England’s next 100-ball cricket live outing at Worcester on Sunday, as Tammy Beaumont and her teammates look to continue their dominant form.
