West Indies Level T20I Series with Six-Wicket Victory over Sri Lanka
West Indies Women bounced back from their previous defeat to level the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, securing a six-wicket win (via the DLS method) in a rain-affected encounter at Hambantota. This was the visitors’ first victory of the tour.
Chasing a DLS-adjusted target of 99 runs in 15 overs, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor provided an impressive start, putting on 44 runs in 6.5 overs. Although Matthews fell to a Sachini Nisansala delivery, Taylor anchored the chase, scoring an unbeaten 28 off 26 balls. She shared a 24-run second-wicket partnership with Shemaine Campbelle, who contributed 16 off 13 deliveries, before the lower-order batters finished the job.
“This victory allowed West Indies to level the series 1-1, setting up a tantalizing decider in the coming days. The result will provide a much-needed boost for the visitors as they look to secure their first series win of the tour.”
Earlier, leg-spinner Afy Fletcher was the standout performer for West Indies, picking up 4 for 28 to keep Sri Lanka’s innings in check. Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne had provided a solid 44-run opening stand, but Fletcher’s guile and the sluggish surface ensured the hosts could only manage 89 for 4 in 15.2 overs before the rain arrived.
