Lancashire Tighten Grip on Victory Against Kent in Vitality County Championship

Canterbury, June 25, 2024 – Lancashire are closing in on a dominant victory against Kent in their Vitality County Championship clash, having reduced the hosts to 143 for 6 at stumps on day three. With Kent still trailing by 162 runs and only four wickets remaining in their second innings, the chances of them avoiding a heavy defeat to their relegation rivals are bleak.

Lancashire had earlier declared their first innings on a mammoth 549 for 9, thanks to a brilliant 205 from Josh Bohannon and a half-century from Matty Hurst. George Garrett was the pick of the Kent bowlers, claiming 3 for 89.

In Kent’s second innings, the Lancashire bowling attack of Will Williams and Tom Bailey both took two wickets apiece to leave the home side in deep trouble. Ben Compton top-scored with 37, but the rest of the Kent batters struggled to make an impact, with the exception of Charlie Stobo (25)* and Beyers Swanepoel (18)*, who managed to see out the final few overs of the day.

The day’s play was not without its moments of levity, as a band called the “Useless Pluckers” performed during the lunch break, prompting one Lancashire observer to quip.

As Kent look to mount a desperate rearguard action on the final day, Lancashire will be confident of sealing a comprehensive victory and dealing a significant blow to their opponents’ hopes of avoiding relegation in this 100-ball cricket live encounter.
