Emerging Pace Sensation Ryana MacDonald-Gay Earns Maiden England Call-Up for ODIs Against New Zealand
Durham, 12th June – In a major boost for the England women’s cricket team, 20-year-old pace bowler Ryana MacDonald-Gay has received her first senior international call-up. The talented youngster will join the England squad in Durham on Tuesday, ahead of the opening one-day international against New Zealand on Wednesday (13:00 BST).
MacDonald-Gay’s impressive domestic performances have earned her this opportunity, as the second-highest wicket-taker in this year’s Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy with 11 wickets in four games at an exceptional average of 11.75. Notably, she also shone during England A’s tour of New Zealand in March, where she claimed six wickets in two 50-over matches.
“Ryana has been a standout bowler in domestic 50-over cricket and had a good 50-over tour of New Zealand with our England A team. We have brought her in at this point as we have a couple of niggles in the squad, and we have been really impressed with her skill level and accuracy. She is an exciting young talent, and we look forward to having her in the squad.”
- Head coach Jon Lewis
Fans will be eager to see MacDonald-Gay’s international debut, following her impressive performances in last summer’s Hundred competition for Oval Invincibles, where she claimed eight wickets.
Ball-by-ball commentary of all three ODIs will be available on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, with live text and in-play video clips on the BBC Sport website and app, allowing cricket enthusiasts to follow the action closely.
