Livingstone Content to Remain England’s Bit-Part Player for T20 World Cup Glory

Liam Livingstone has expressed his contentment to remain England’s bit-part player if the team can clinch their third T20 World Cup title in the Caribbean this week. Livingstone, who has faced only 33 balls and bowled just 7 overs in the tournament so far, admitted that he doesn’t feel like he has the “most glamorous role” in the team. However, he has contributed in England’s last two matches, scoring 33 off 17 balls against South Africa and taking 1 for 24 in 4 overs against the USA.

Livingstone acknowledged that his occasional walk-on parts have been a “mental challenge” as he is tasked with finishing off games with the bat and getting wickets with the ball when the team is struggling. Despite his limited involvement, the all-rounder is ready to step up if required ahead of Thursday’s semi-final. He has been picking the brains of former West Indies captain and all-rounder Kieron Pollard, who has been working with England during the tournament, to learn from his tactical insights.

“It’s been a mental challenge, but I’m happy to play the role that I’m playing if it means we can win the World Cup.”

Livingstone’s interventions, though brief, have been telling, as he has hit 61 runs off his 33 balls, including 5 sixes, and took the crucial wicket of West Indies captain Rovman Powell during England’s victory over the hosts in St Lucia. The 100-ball cricket live enthusiast is happy to maintain his bit-part role if it means England can retain their T20 World Cup title, but he stands prepared to make a greater impact if called upon by captain Jos Buttler.
