Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag Emerges as a Rising Star in IPL 2024

After five years in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag finally announced his arrival on the big stage this season. The 22-year-old scored a remarkable 573 runs, finishing as the third highest run-getter in IPL 2024 and playing a pivotal role in his team’s run to the playoffs.

    Rising to the Occasion

In an interview on the sidelines of the Red Bull Campus Cricket Finals, Parag spoke about his journey, the changing dynamics of the game, and his ambitions as an all-rounder. The young cricketer discussed how he has matured over the past few years, dealing with the immense scrutiny that comes with playing in the IPL, and his views on the recent trend of ultra-aggressive batting.

“I didn’t make much of a change. Domestically, I play at No.4 for Assam and it was just a matter of time before I got into similar situations in the IPL,” he said.

    Adaptability and Perspective

Parag, who has previously played in the IPL since making his debut at the age of 17, emphasized that his success this season was not the result of any drastic changes, but rather a culmination of his consistent efforts.

The talented all-rounder also shared his insights on the Impact Player rule, stating that while it has changed the dynamics of the game, he prefers to have more opportunities to showcase his bowling skills.

When asked about the perception of the game being too favorable for batters, Parag offered a different perspective:

“Batters can only make one mistake, whereas bowlers get five more balls (in an over) if they make a mistake. So, how is it a batter’s game? Batters are playing exceptionally well so you have to give them credit, not demean them,” he argued.

    Embracing the Player’s Perspective

As the discussion shifted to the Indian team’s preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Parag emphasized the importance of maintaining a players’ perspective rather than that of a fan.

“I can never watch cricket as a fan, I’ll always do it as a player. I hate when people watch cricket as fans. If you do that, please don’t speak to me because there are very different perspectives,” he stated.

Parag’s insightful commentary and his recent standout performances in the IPL have undoubtedly established him as a rising star in the world of cricket. His words reflect a mature, resilient, and passionate approach to the game, and cricket enthusiasts will undoubtedly be eager to see his continued growth and contributions in the future.
