Cricket Superstar Jordan Shines in Homecoming Match at Kensington Oval
While Jofra Archer may garner more attention as an England cricketer of Bajan origin, Chris Jordan’s roots in the Caribbean should not be overlooked. The Kensington Oval, where Jordan first witnessed a cricket match between West Indies and England, holds a special place in his heart.
In a crucial Super Eight match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Jordan delivered a spectacular performance, taking a hat-trick to cut short USA’s innings. The collapse saw five wickets fall without any runs scored, and England eventually won the match by ten wickets, securing a semi-final spot.
“Yeah, it’s a good day,” an elated Jordan said. “I think because my family actually doesn’t get to travel the world and watch me play a lot of international cricket. So to do it in front of them definitely is right up there. And then also in a World Cup, in a game to make sure that we can qualify, it’s definitely up there for sure. Ranks high.”
Jordan’s family, including his mother, father, sister, brother-in-law, and nephew, were all in attendance, making the occasion even more special. His nephew’s prediction of a three-wicket haul further added to the memorable moment.
The Importance of Homecoming
The England leadership brought Jordan and Jofra Archer back for the crucial match, recognizing the significance of their homecoming. While it can be challenging for a player to not be assured of a place in the starting XI, Jordan has maintained a positive attitude, focusing on what he can control.
“Not too much of a challenge because I [have] played a lot of cricket now, and I think the communication has been really good from the hierarchy as well,” Jordan said. “I try to control the things that I can control – because even when I’m not playing, I’m trying to be there for guys and help guys with their planning, and make sure that guys are well motivated as well going into the game.”
With his impressive performance and unwavering commitment, Chris Jordan has solidified his place as a valuable asset to the England cricket team, both on and off the field.
