Gautam Gambhir’s Homecoming Seals KKR’s Third IPL Title
Gautam Gambhir’s return to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor has cemented his legacy as one of the most successful IPL captains. With three titles in eight seasons, Gambhir’s achievements are matched only by the likes of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni.
Gambhir, who first led KKR to IPL glory in 2012 and 2014, completed the trifecta for the franchise after a 10-year hiatus. His homecoming was celebrated by team owner Shah Rukh Khan, who was overjoyed to see the former India opener reclaim his place in the KKR family.
“The partnership between Gambhir and SRK has been one of the most iconic in IPL history. Despite parting ways in 2017, the duo remained in touch, and it was last year that they finally discussed Gambhir’s potential return to KKR. The franchise owner reportedly offered Gambhir a blank cheque to be a part of the KKR setup for the next 10 years.”
However, Gambhir’s homecoming now faces a potential roadblock, as the BCCI is considering him for the coveted role of the Indian team’s head coach. If Gambhir accepts the national team job, he will have to sever ties with KKR, a franchise he holds dear to his heart.
The decision will not be an easy one for Gambhir, who now has to choose between his loyalty to KKR and the opportunity to coach the Indian cricket team. The next few weeks will be crucial, as the former cricketer navigates this career-defining choice.
