ILT20 Announces Player Retention Lists for 2025 Season

On June 21st, 2024, the International League T20 (ILT20) announced the player retention lists for the six participating franchises ahead of the league’s third season, set to commence in 2025. The defending champions, MI Emirates, have retained a strong core of players, including captain Nicholas Pooran, Dwayne Bravo, Akeal Hosein, Kieron Pollard, and Fazalhaq Farooqi. However, notable absentee Trent Boult, who was part of the team last season, has not been retained.

The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders have retained their captain Sunil Narine and star all-rounder Andre Russell, along with other key players such as David Willey, Charith Asalanka, Ali Khan, and Andries Gous.

Desert Vipers have kept hold of Mohammad Amir, Wanindu Hasaranga, Alex Hales, and Azam Khan, while fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Matheesha Pathirana were not retained.

David Warner, the captain of Dubai Capitals, headlines their retention list, which also includes Rovman Powell, Sam Billings, and Jake Fraser-McGurk. However, England’s Joe Root and Mark Wood, who were part of the squad last year, have been left out.

Shimron Hetmyer and captain James Vince are the notable names retained by Gulf Giants, while the Sharjah Warriors have kept Kusal Mendis, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Johnson Charles.

“Each franchise has also retained two UAE players, and there was no limit on the retention of international players. The teams can now sign new players during the ongoing player acquisition window, which will remain open until September 15th. The franchises will also need to complete their quota of four UAE signings after the completion of the ILT20 development tournament in October.”

The third season of the ILT20 is scheduled to be played from January 11th to February 9th, 2025, in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.
