Australian Cricketer Travis Head Regrets Boozy World Cup Celebrations
Australian cricket star Travis Head has expressed his regret over the level of boozy celebrations following his team’s triumph at the ODI World Cup in 2023. Head, who played a pivotal role in Australia’s victory, acknowledged that the post-match revelry, which drew comparisons to the infamous antics of former cricketer David Boon, was not something he wanted to be remembered for.
“It’s a hard one to sum up. I think I’m just being me and that’s the beauty of Pat [Cummins] and Ronnie [Andrew McDonald] and what they’ve brought to the team … and how I’ve just been able to be me around the group,” Head told News Corp. “In terms of the Boony stuff, it’s probably the only downfall from the World Cup….the post [celebrating] stuff that snuck itself out and some of the carry on I would have liked to not go out [on social media]. Just for some of the perception stuff.”
Head, who is now a father, expressed his desire to set a good example for his daughter Milla and not be defined solely by his boozy celebrations. He acknowledged that while he was happy being himself, the perception created by the post-World Cup revelry was not something he welcomed.
Focusing on T20 World Cup Success
The 30-year-old opening batsman has since turned his focus to the ongoing T20 World Cup in the Caribbean, where he has impressed in Australia’s wins against England, Namibia, and Scotland. The Aussies are now seeking a rare “Triple Crown” by adding the T20 World Cup trophy to their existing World Test Championship and ODI World Cup titles.
As Head prepares to face Bangladesh in their next match, he is determined to be remembered for his cricket exploits rather than his off-field antics, despite the initial comparisons to the legendary Boon and his infamous 52-beer flight to England.
