Chauhan’s Record-Breaking Masterclass Seals Estonia’s Victory over Cyprus

On June 17, 2024, the opening day of the six-match bilateral series between Estonia and Cyprus saw Sahil Chauhan, the 32-year-old Estonian cricketer, deliver a record-breaking performance in the second match.

Batting first, Cyprus posted a respectable total of 191 for 7. In response, Estonia’s chase got off to a disastrous start, with both openers falling within the first eight balls, leaving the team at 9 for 2.

However, Chauhan took the Cyprus bowlers by storm, unleashing a blistering assault from the very first ball he faced. He smashed six, four, and six in the first three legal deliveries, setting the tone for his exceptional innings. Despite the early fall of his partners, Chauhan continued to dominate the proceedings, reaching a 14-ball half-century in the previous over, courtesy of four sixes and a four off Mangala Gunasekara.

“Chauhan’s onslaught continued as he hammered four more sixes off Chamal Sadun in the eighth over, followed by three more in the next over off Neeraj Tiwari, the last one taking him to a magnificent century.”

The big hits continued until Chauhan finished off the chase with a four off the last ball of the 13th over, scoring a scintillating 91 runs off just 26 balls at a strike rate of 351.21.

Sahil Chauhan’s breathtaking performance not only propelled Estonia to a comfortable victory but also broke the record for the most sixes hit in a men’s T20I innings, with 18 maximums to his name.
