Career-best 97 Propels Northern Diamonds to Victory Over Western Storm
Headingley witnessed a scintillating performance from England hopeful Hollie Armitage as the Northern Diamonds defeated Western Storm by 28 runs in a Charlotte Edwards Cup clash. Armitage’s career-best score of 97 off just 64 balls, the highest individual innings of the tournament so far, laid the foundation for the Diamonds’ 146/3 total.
Opting to bat first, the hosts were led by Armitage’s dominant display, which included 14 fours and 2 sixes. The right-hander forged a 97-run opening partnership with Emma Marlow (9) inside 12 overs, showcasing her exceptional strokeplay on the true Headingley surface.
Despite a late Storm fightback, with Sophia Smale and Issy Wong returning impressive figures of 1/23, the Diamonds’ total proved too much for the visitors. Former England batter Fran Wilson top-scored with 42 for Western Storm, but the team fell short, finishing on 118/7.
“This match was witnessed by a number of former Yorkshire players, including England legend Katherine Sciver-Brunt, who was recently honored with an OBE.”
Seamer Rachel Slater and spinners Sophia Turner and Katie Levick each claimed two wickets for the victorious Diamonds, who secured their second win of the campaign.
