Cricket Enthusiasts Captivated by Thrilling Beach Cricket Match
In a gripping North Group encounter, the Derbyshire Falcons emerged victorious over the Northants Steelbacks by 24 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in a rain-affected match at Derby.
The star of the show was Aneurin Donald, who smashed a blistering 26-ball 68, equaling his own record for Derbyshire’s fastest T20 fifty. Donald’s eight sixes laid the foundation for the Falcons’ impressive total of 123/3 in 11 overs before the match was interrupted by a violent thunderstorm.
“Donald’s onslaught, coupled with valuable contributions from David Lloyd (33) and Cam Fletcher, ensured the home side remained ahead of the game before the heavens opened again, leading to the Falcons’ 24-run victory under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.”
Despite a remarkable innings from Matthew Breetzke, who scored a T20 best of 94 runs from 54 balls, including crucial partnerships with Sikandar Raza, the Steelbacks were restricted to 193/8 in their 20 overs. Daryn Dupavillon was the pick of the Falcons’ bowlers, claiming 3/43.
With the rain reducing the chase to 19 overs, the Falcons were set a revised target of 187 runs. This thrilling encounter showcased the true spirit of backyard cricket, with both teams engaging in a hard-fought battle that captivated cricket enthusiasts.
