Central Sparks Seal Qualification with Dramatic Last-Ball Win over Thunder
In a thrilling encounter at Edgbaston, Central Sparks secured their place in the Charlotte Edwards Cup finals with an eight-wicket victory over Thunder, courtesy of a magnificent unbeaten partnership between Abi Freeborn and Amy Jones.
Sparks Bowlers Restrict Thunder
Opting to field first, Sparks bowlers Grace Potts and Charis Pavely made early inroads, reducing Thunder to 3/2. However, Seren Smale’s brilliant 88 off 61 balls* steadied the ship and helped the visitors post a competitive 146/6. Sparks’ bowling was led by Potts, who finished with 2/18.
Freeborn and Jones Secure Victory
In reply, Sparks lost two early wickets, but Freeborn (71, 57 balls)* and Jones (67, 45 balls)* forged an unbeaten 128-run stand to guide their team to victory with a ball to spare. Jones sealed the win in style, smashing the final two deliveries to the boundary.
“With Eve Jones sidelined due to concussion, Georgia Davis led the Sparks to a crucial triumph that sealed their spot in the finals. The result also ended Thunder’s hopes of qualification, as Freeborn and Jones combined to deliver a thrilling last-ball win for the home side.”
